Mission & Vision

Welcome to the Department of Economics.  Currently our department includes six tenure/tenure track faculty, one assistant teaching professor, one Chancellor's Professor and one administrative assistant.  We pride ourselves in student welfare and are student-centered first and foremost.  We see almost every student who attends Missouri S&T at some point in our classes and that is very important to us.  We work with local economic development and additionally undertake meaningful research in the areas of sports, finance and investments, game theory, development, energy economics, natural resource economics, work place behavior, and sustainability. We are a friendly face on campus, maintain a student-oriented atmosphere, and look forward to having you join us.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Economics at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) is to provide quality education to our students. The Economics Department is notable in its quantitative nature, which is natural given its connection to Missouri S&T.  In addition to advanced degrees in Economics, the department faculty have graduate and undergraduate degrees in a number of quantitative areas, including Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Materials Science.  Given the stem focus of S&T's academic offerings, the economics department has developed a broad outreach to our engineering, science and mathematics students, encouraging them to seek double majors in economics and take advantage of the synergistic tie between engineering and economics education.  The department courses are taught rigorously, and are technologically-orientated in keeping with the mission of the university.  Our expectation is that students with degrees from the department will have an excellent education, preparing them for graduate school or career opportunities across the spectrum of business, finance, the study of the law, government, and public policy. In addition, the department includes a program that serves students who have a career objective of secondary teaching.  The educational experience of our students is distinguished by personal attention and guidance for students; a commitment to quality education with continuous improvement; an emphasis on teamwork, information resources, and the link between economics, business, and technology.
